You now know the strategy. The 5 stages of The Break-In Blueprint take you from "I'm thinking about PM" all the way to surviving your first 90 days on the job. The final question is what you do this week. Two actions: fill out the Tracker, then identify the smallest next move. Hope is not a strategy.
Explore the role through self-paced learning before you commit to a bootcamp. Apprentice with a structured cohort and ship one real side project to prove potential. Become an Unofficial PM by applying the product mindset inside your current job — even without the title. Move into Candidate mode by tightening your story and trying internal moves before external. Once you land the role, survive your first 90 days as a New PM by absorbing context, building alliances, and shipping early wins.
Now you know the strategy. There are two actionable next steps you can take today.
First: fill out your Blueprint Tracker. Make small commitments and you'll thank yourself in six months. Twelve months ago you were probably thinking about breaking into PM. Twelve months later, you're still thinking about it. So make a decision today that future-you, twelve months from now, will be proud of. Small steps. You'll thank yourself in six months.
Second: identify where you want to start learning. What are the key areas? What are the quick wins you want to overcome? Track your progress over time. Add the impediments — the things that might get in your way — and figure out solutions to overcome them. Then set up a regular session every month to review your progress. Or join the Product Academy meetup sessions and we'll go through this with you. What have you done? What have you learned? What got in your way?
Once your Tracker is filled out, the discipline is the monthly review. Pick a date that's already in your calendar (the first of the month, the day after a payday, whatever sticks). Spend 30 minutes asking three questions:
That's it. Repeat for 12 months. The Tracker compounds in a way no individual decision can.
You now have a named methodology (The Break-In Blueprint), a 5-stage map of where you are right now, a tool (the Tracker) that turns the map into deadlines, and a community (Builders) of other career changers running the same playbook. That's more structure than 95% of people trying to break into PM have. The hard part isn't knowing what to do. It's doing it for the next 12 to 24 months without giving up.
